Mike leads the medical and scientific strategy behind Calico’s clinical programs.

About

Mike sets the clinical strategy across Calico’s portfolio, overseeing end-to-end clinical development and clinical trial execution, regulatory strategy, quality systems, and cross-functional program leadership to advance therapies from early clinical development through approval. He leads the integrated teams responsible for driving pipeline progression while ensuring scientific integrity and regulatory compliance.

Mike joined Calico with over a decade of clinical development leadership in biotech and pharma, most recently as Senior Vice President and Head of Non-Oncology Clinical Development at Dren Bio. He previously spent nearly a decade at Genentech, ultimately serving as Senior Group Medical Director, Early Clinical Development. Mike completed a joint M.D. Ph.D. degree at UCSF, then trained as a physician-scientist at Stanford, where he completed his internal medicine residency, fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology, and postdoctoral research fellowship in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. He remains an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford.
