My research interests are in translational neuroscience, with specific emphasis on neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. I am particularly intrigued by the interaction between aging and neurodegeneration and look for fundamental principles that derive from both model organism and patient studies.
Before joining Calico as a translational neuroscientist, I was a Principal Investigator at Biogen in Cambridge, MA where my group led target discovery efforts in Parkinson's disease. Prior to that, I was faculty at Emory University in Atlanta, with joint appointments in the departments of Cell Biology and Neurology at the Emory School of Medicine. My academic group worked on synaptic plasticity, sleep and neurodegeneration.
