Robert L. Cohen, M.D.

Calico Fellow

Bob played an integral role in Calico’s founding and has a current role that spans research, development and business development.

About

Bob leads a development-stage project while contributing to the technical review of external opportunities and mentoring other scientists. In Calico’s early years, Bob helped put in place key agreements with commercial partners such as Abbvie and C4, and also supported the creation of many sponsored research agreements with academic institutions.

Before Calico, Bob had a 20-year career in cancer drug development at Genentech. He was a leader in the development of several of the company’s groundbreaking cancer drugs and was appointed Genentech’s Senior Oncology Fellow in 2008.

He greatly enjoys the scientific environment that has taken root at Calico and appreciates the opportunity to interact with outstanding colleagues to explore new areas of biology that can be applied to problems of aging.

Bob has a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Amherst College and an M.D. with Distinction in Research from the University of Rochester. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan and his subspecialty training at the University of California at San Francisco before joining the faculty as an assistant professor. He is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology.
