Magdalena Lopez Ph.D

Associate Director, Cellular Models and Assay Technologies

Magdalena is a cell biologist, biochemist, and physicist who uses a multidisciplinary approach and advanced technologies to assay the complex biology of aging.

About

Magdalena leads Calico’s Cellular Models and Assay Technologies Technology Lab which develops state-of-the-art protein, cell, and tissue-based assay systems and implements novel discovery platforms to measure and manipulate cellular and protein function in vitro and in vivo. Her group’s work helps accelerate early research and drug discovery programs internally and with Calico’s external collaborators.

Prior to joining Calico in 2017, Magalena was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institutes of Health in the laboratory of Dr. Clare M. Waterman. There, she investigated how the cell cytoskeleton generates the forces needed for cell movement, utilizing advanced fluorescence microscopy techniques and her quantitative and programming skills to answer challenging biological questions.
