As Chief Financial Officer, John is responsible for accounting and accounting operations, financial planning and analysis, facilities and lab operations, IT, communications, and alliance management.
Prior to Calico, John was CFO at the Gladstone Institutes, a not-for-profit life sciences research institute. Before joining Gladstone, he worked at Genentech for over 20 years, most recently as Deputy CFO. While at Genentech, John was responsible for accounting and accounting operations, SEC reporting, financial planning and analysis, divisional controllers, M&A, and treasury. He was a member of the product development committee, capital governance committee, and various product launch teams, and led the Genentech Foundation. Earlier in his career, John worked at Arthur Young as a certified public accountant. He has been on the board of directors for several for profit and not-for-profit companies.
John earned an MBA, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biology, from the University of Oregon.
