Portrait of Brian Feng, Ph.D

Brian Feng, Ph.D

Principal Investigator

Brian catalogues and interprets the phenotypic effects of chemical and genetic perturbations on cells.

About

Brian’s lab uses scalable, information-rich methods such as high-content imaging to explore age-related processes and diseases. In collaboration with data scientists, Brian’s group teases out unexpected observations from complex, multidimensional data.

Prior to joining Calico, Brian spent many years working at Novartis, applying phenotypic screening to the discovery of new antibiotics. He has also worked at X (formerly google[x]), an Alphabet-backed company specializing in “moonshot” research projects.

Education:
  • Postdoc in Chemical and Systems Biology, Laboratory of James Chen, Stanford University
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry and Chemical Biology, University of California at San Francisco
  • B.S. in Biology, University of Texas, Austin
