About
Qi leads Calico’s Protein Sciences Group, which applies new technologies to advance the understanding of proteins – their structure, function, and the interactions between them. Her work contributes to drug development and research programs in the company.
Qi’s career in science began as a Ph.D. student at Tsinghua University in Nieng Yan’s lab, studying plant hormone signaling pathways and apoptosis. From there, she performed protein biochemical and biophysical studies for microtubule association protein complexes as a visiting scholar in Tarun Kapoor’s lab at Rockefeller University. She went on to complete a postdoc in the Gunter Blobel lab, where she used electron microscopy to study the transmembrane protein complex within the nuclear pore complex.
