Dan brings together our computational, lab technology, and research teams to catalyze the development of innovative discovery tools that advance Calico’s research programs.

About

As Head of Discovery Technology, Dan oversees all of Calico’s Discovery Technology labs and the Computing teams who work in collaboration with our Research teams to drive the development and deployment of innovative discovery tools that enable our research efforts. 

Prior to Calico, Dan spent more than 30 years at Genentech. In his last 15 years there, he served as the Senior Director of the Protein Chemistry department overseeing protein purification, protein conjugation, functional genomics and proteomics. Dan’s lab at Genentech focused on protein purification/characterization, protein-protein interactions, and development of novel bispecific antibody platforms. Dan was the first ever summer intern and the third postdoc to be hired at Genentech.

Dan’s current interests are broad ranging, but have a focus on aiding in the establishment of Calico’s machine learning-driven peptide platform.

Dan earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt and a Masters in Physiology from San Francisco State University. He completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Kansas.
