My lab utilizes sequencing technologies to address fundamental questions in cell biology. We are currently interested in the aging genome. Our research seeks to develop a quantitative framework for understanding how cells interpret and respond to genomic perturbations.
I have a long-standing interest in gene regulation fed largely by innovations in deep sequencing. As a Ph.D. student in David Bartel’s lab at the Whitehead, I studied the mechanisms and evolution of mRNA and small non-coding RNA biogenesis pathways. I then moved to the University of California, San Francisco, where as a postdoc with Jonathan Weissman, I developed methods based on ribosome profiling to interrogate translation with subcellular resolution.
