Yi Liu, Ph.D.

Principal Engineer

Yi is interested in leveraging modern methods from deep learning and computer vision to characterize how visual appearance reflects biological state.

Yi works with multiple data modalities, including magnetic resonance imaging, microscopy, and natural images. Prior to Calico, Yi was a computer vision researcher at Vicarious AI where he worked on classification, detection, segmentation and tracking, with applications in robotics.

Yi was co-advised by Professor Scott Boyd and Professor Daphne Koller for his Ph.D. at Stanford, where he modeled the diversity, clonal expansions, and convergent signatures of lymphocyte repertoires. During his masters, Yi worked on free text medical record mining with Professor Nigam Shah. His early professional experience included software engineering and algorithmic trading.
