Research Focus

Our overarching goal is to identify the molecular changes that cause aging, as well as the downstream age-associated events that lead to cellular decline. We use the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model system for studying the aging process in eukaryotic cells.

Prior to Calico, I was a full member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, from 1996 to 2015, as well as an affiliate professor in the department of Genome Sciences, at the University of Washington School of Medicine, from 2001 to 2015. Earlier in my career I was an assistant and then associate professor at the University of Chicago, and before that a postdoctoral fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
