Calico is a research and development company whose mission is to understand the biology of aging, and to help people to lead longer and healthier lives. We aim to combine the best biomedical science with cutting edge technology and computing.
Biology is rapidly becoming a data science, with an ongoing explosion in the amount and quality of biological and medical data. These data can be transformative to our understanding of biology and disease, but deriving these insights requires a careful and rigorous analysis that often goes considerably beyond existing methods. Calico is seeking a strong leader to build and lead a world-class team that develops new data analysis and machine learning algorithms to extract insights from data that is being produced by our internal science teams, our collaborators, and by other parties (e.g., publicly available databases). You will also collaborate with our scientists to design new experiments that can provide valuable insights relevant to our mission. The data that your team will tackle will span multiple organisms (from yeast to human), scales (from molecule to entire organisms to molecules), data modalities (from physiology to sequencing to imaging to free text), and time scales (from single time points to continuous time series).
Here, you will work in close collaboration with some of the world’s best life scientists and enable them to achieve ground-breaking discoveries in human health. You will do so by creating something new in a company that is both a nimble startup but also has a firm financial footing. Your team will develop cutting edge methods that span data processing, machine learning, data analysis, and data visualization and exploration, and that help extract novel insights from the challenging datasets that we are collecting. You will also work with our data platform and our computational biology teams to turn these methods into a repository of scalable, reusable tools.
